This belongs to the same disillusioned group as 72, 75, and 85. The mood in which
Catullus's own single-minded loyalty is invoked is one not of self-righteousness
(Fordyce 1961, 380) but rather of despair. Note the switch in the last line to direct
apostrophe: emotion has got the better of third-person distancing. Catullus startles
the reader here, brings Lesbia suddenly, and directly, into the reckoning (Lyne
1980,42).
